Alastair is the global leader of McKinsey’s Infrastructure Special Initiative and a senior leader of its Private Equity & Principal Investors Practice.

Alastair specializes in serving private equity and infrastructure investors and their portfolio companies on a broad range of topics spanning fund strategy, transactions, project development, and value-creation programs. In addition, he serves innovators and public institutions on investment and infrastructure topics, including how to effectively partner with private investors. Alastair’s expertise spans several sectors, given the breadth of his clients, and has worked extensively in the energy, travel and logistics, real estate, industrials, and technology sectors. He is a thought leader who helps his clients navigate the complex infrastructure landscape in light of rapidly changing policies and technology.

Some of his recent client work includes the following:

  • supporting multiple leading infrastructure investors in commercial and operational due diligence of dozens of new assets
  • guiding the creation of a growth strategy for a leading provider of microgrid solutions
  • helping a leading infrastructure project developer validate the business case, craft the bidding strategy, and design the project organizational structure for a multibillion Public-Private Partnership (P3)
  • assisting an infrastructure-focused engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) firm with designing its organizational structure and strategic growth
  • helping create a full potential plan for multiple waste and environmental services businesses
  • developing a micro-market strategy with an urban mobility original equipment manufacturer (OEM)
  • supporting a transportation technology company in evaluating dozens of markets for organic and inorganic growth, resulting in three new acquisitions
  • assisting with the formation of a growth plan for a specialty waste operator in combination with a strategic merger
  • helping reduce network and operating costs for a large logistics provider to compete for new enterprise contracts
  • advising a battery manufacturer on effective ways to reduce its material costs by more than 20%
  • collaborating with an energy infrastructure investor to select the top 5% of potential investments for its mandate

In addition to his client commitments, Alastair serves on the board of Mengo Hospital Partners, a nonprofit focused on creating the leading children’s hospital in East Africa.

Prior to joining McKinsey, Alastair worked internationally for investment organizations and has experience working on infrastructure and investment-related engagements in the Americas, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and sub-Saharan Africa.
